The Root biotope of South America

You would need a big aquarium for this set up, about 75 gallons or more in size. The
bottom should be filled in with fine sand and gravel, to about one and a half inch of
height. Place bogwood and driftwood in the aquarium. Take care to leave some space for
swimming. The wood will provide the fish enough of nooks and crannies as shelters, you
do not need any plants in this kind of a biotope. Slight water circulation and a single
fluorescent light will be enough for this calm and peaceful setup. The pH of the water
should be low, and the temperature should be kept in the low eighties. The kinds of fish
that go in here are very pretty to the eye. 4-6 Angelfish, a school of Hatchet fish and
some armored Catfish make this a stunning display of that ecosystem.
